Australia’s Festival of Porridge
The Pearly Spurtle
The Pearly Spurtle – Festival of Porridge is Australia’s first celebration of all things porridge, centred around a unique and entertaining porridge-making competition. Taking place at Pearl Beach Memorial Hall on Saturday 8 August 2026 from 9.30am-3.00pm, the festival will bring together locals, visitors and neighbouring communities for a day of fun, creativity and good-natured competition.
Inspired by the Golden Spurtle, the annual World Porridge Making Championship held in Carrbridge, Scotland — the Pearly Spurtle is Australia’s own tribute to the humble oat with an added dose of whimsy and laughter. Competitors will battle it out in traditional and creative porridge-making categories, with the overall winner being flown to Scotland to represent Australia at the World Porridge Championships in October.
Beyond the competition, visitors can enjoy pipe band performances, Scottish dancing, free rum tasting, hot buttered rum bar, children’s porridge decorating, bacon butties, gourmet porridge bowls and plenty of entertainment from a roving emcee.
Run entirely by volunteers, the festival is a community fundraising event, with proceeds supporting the ongoing maintenance and preservation of the much-loved Pearl Beach Memorial Hall.
