How we got our start

The sleepy coastal village of Pearl Beach had never held a festival before, but when the old community hall roof began leaking after a wild summer storm, the locals decided to try something unusual — a Festival of Porridge. On a crisp winter morning, the scent of oats, cinnamon, coconut, and honey drifted through the streets as neighbours carried steaming pots to the foreshore. Families queued for bowls topped with fresh berries and brown sugar while children competed in a “Golden Spoon” tasting contest. Visitors from nearby towns arrived out of curiosity and stayed for the warmth, laughter, and music that filled the beachside reserve.

By sunset, the town had raised far more than anyone expected. The funds would repair the hall, support the surf lifesaving club, and help elderly residents with transport during winter. As volunteers packed away empty pots and folded tables beneath the glow of fairy lights, everyone agreed the festival had become more than a fundraiser — it was a reminder that even the simplest meal could bring a whole community together.
