Australia’s Festival of Porridge

Pearly Spurtle Festival partners with Coast Shelter to share more than just breakfast

At its heart, the Pearly Spurtle Festival is about community. It’s about gathering around a warm bowl of porridge, sharing stories, making new friends and looking out for one another.

This year, we’re proud to extend that spirit beyond Pearl Beach by partnering with Coast Shelter as the festival’s preferred charity.

For more than 30 years, Coast Shelter has been providing hope and practical support to some of the Central Coast’s most vulnerable people. Every day they help individuals and families experiencing homelessness, domestic and family violence by providing emergency accommodation, safe housing, nutritious meals, clothing and personalised support to help people rebuild their lives. Their community centres also offer meals, health, financial and wellbeing support, creating a welcoming place for people when they need it most.

While the Pearly Spurtle celebrates the simple comfort of a bowl of porridge, we know that not everyone has the security of a warm meal or a safe place to call home. That’s why supporting Coast Shelter felt like a natural partnership.Festival organisers say the connection was an easy one to make.

“The legend of the Sacred Spurtle tells us that good fortune comes when we stir for someone other than ourselves. That spirit of generosity is exactly what Coast Shelter demonstrates every day. By supporting them, we’re helping ensure that more people across the Central Coast experience kindness, dignity and hope.”

Throughout the festival, visitors will have opportunities to support Coast Shelter through donations and fundraising activities, helping the organisation continue its vital work across our region.

The Pearly Spurtle Festival may crown Australia’s best porridge maker, but its greatest success will be measured by the community it helps build.

Because when we gather around one bowl, everyone has a place at the table.

Come for the porridge. Stay for the fun. Help us share a little warmth with those who need it most.
